8th Feb 2010

This week in I.T we had to write our inital brief for ourwebsite. Thanks to my brief i have decieded to promote the band of Green day. In my breif I had to explain my the opportunity i was being given, how it existed and who is affected. Additionally i had to explain what was intented by making my website, where the finished product would go, who would use it and what it will be used for. Next i wrote about my consideration and restrictions such as my skill, expertise, buget, time, legal restrictions, social and my key stakeholder requirements. Lastly i wrote about what my website needs to be successful. These included the general topics i would have on the website, the content, the format and ongoing considerations.
I now have acknowlegded what i need to do before i can get my website up and running.

Below is the Intial breif i have worked on for the past week.

Initial brief
This year I have the opportunity to promote something through a website. I decided to promote a band because music is a very important aspect in our life. Music is the soul to our life. Music plays with our emotions and encourages us to feel strong emotions. I have decided to promote Green Day because they are one of few musicians who have lasted many years together as a band and have many amazing albums. I have decided to design a website about Green Day to advertise the music they play and to encourage more people to listen to this band.
The main aim of this project is to create a website in which people of the public can access. This website will inform them about their band and how much they have been through to get the fame they have now. This will hopefully encourage people to listen to them.
Whilst I make this website many people will be affected by the final product. These people include the general public, parents, and teachers. They are my target market and stakeholders so my website will have to appeal to these people. The website will be available to anyone who has access to the internet and I believe used by many green day fans. It will be a website about the band’s music, their tours, interviews and their fascinating history.
I will have to get over the technical difficulty of learning how to make a proper website on programs such as Photoshop, fireworks and to be able to create a proper website because I have not actually written a website html before.
I will need to consider how much expertise and skill I have obtained whilst in I.T at school. I will have to make sure I don’t try anything to complicated because i don’t know how to use fireworks properly but I can ask my teacher to explain to me if I get lost. However I will be able to do the graphic design using Photoshop and should be fine when it comes to the layout of the website. Additionally I have a very small budget and only a year to fully complete it. I can overcome these restrictions by using the computers at school because I can access the internet for free and by doing my work in I.T I should be able to complete the website in a year.
I have the right equipment with a computer, software and teacher help to make the website. I will have to make sure that my website doesn’t offend anyone or any cultures and sticks within the website protocols of copyright, certain text types and a certain size. I will have to acknowledge the key stakeholder (teachers, students, parents) in my website and what they require from my website. I will make a gant chart to help my time management. It will be made in excel and will show me what i need to do and how long it should take to do it.
For my website to be successful it should contain everything about the band and it should be interesting, captivating and memorable. For this to happen it’s going to have to information about the bands past and their present. It will contain information about all their music, tours and interesting facts. It will be in a straight forward format with all the information down the left hand side and some links on the left hand side with some of their best music. I will have to make sure it sticks to the general industry standards and consider all the ongoing information I may receive from other people, pupils and/or teachers.
